    • Wanting a cease-fire to pause the killings in Gaza is not Marxist, is not anti-Israel, is not pro-Hamas. It is pro-life. I would think anyone who identifies as pro-life is horrified by the death toll, particularly the innocent children.

  • They have no business inserting themselves into the international conflict in the Middle East. Expressing their PERSONAL opinions under the color of the citizens of Alachua County is just plain wrong. BTW, you might notice the total lack of interest in our roads, as usual (a PRIMARY responsibility of local government).

  • Can they stay in their lane and do something about the vagrants, panhandlers, bums, convicted felons with guns, & potholes? They are out of their jurisdiction!!!!!!

    • It is in everyone’s “lane” to weigh in on the death toll in Gaza. The County is aggressively addressing roads thanks to the voter-approved sales tax. The State has preempted Counties from regulating guns. The county does not control Law Enforcement or the courts. And while there are many services for the homeless, that continues to be a nationwide problem not unique to our area. It will require state and federal assistance to fix.

      • “The county does not control Law Enforcement or the courts.”

Well Truth be told the county (and city) DO control law enforcement by using the law enforcement’s agency with the budgeting process. Also, wasn’t the city commissioners the ones to limit the use of K-9 units??? Sounds like an indirect way of controlling law enforcement. In addition, the city is telling Chief Gainey that they have to provide unlimited free calls for inmates in the jail.

        • Lou, you are absolutely correct. The commissioners are ruining this town. I hope people are taking notes and remembering this garbage when it is time to vote.

        • Lou, you are confusing City and County. The city has a police department that they control. The County is required to fund the Sheriff but has no control over the law enforcement side of the operation. The County owns the jail and contracts with the Sheriff to operate it, so they have some say over it.

      • What each person may weigh in on personally is a completely different matter than what people in an elected position should do as representatives for the community as a whole.

The county government’s lane does not include international affairs.

  • Forget about Israel & Gaza…..they are not part of your elected responsibilities. Now….how bout a cease fire right here in Gville?

    • There are times when elected officials and communities worldwide weigh in on issues. It is their collective responsibility when witnessing what is happening in a place like Gaza.

    • Few things in life can be more certain than that Israel will pay no attention to the Alachua County Commissioners.

  • What do we have here global commissioners? Stay the hell out of Middle East politics and fix our roads! There’s enough issues in Gainesville and Alachua county to keep you busy. No one cares what you COUNTY commissioners want for Israel. Idiots . Let Israel do what they need to do. Eliminate terrorists.
