NOTICE OF PUBLIC INPUT SESSIONS
The School Board of Alachua County’s District Office Renaming Committee will hold public input sessions to which all persons are invited.
Meeting Dates, Times, and Locations: Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. and Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the Alachua County Public Schools District Office Board Room, 620 East University Ave.
Purpose and Effect: The purpose is to discuss, consider, and receive input on the renaming of the Alachua County Public Schools District Office Building.

People need to attend these meetings!
Why? This is the very least of the School Board’s problems. They might shorten the description of the building, but it certainly doesn’t need a political name that further divides the citizens of Alachua County.
Maybe if this dysfunctional School Board spent as much effort in doing their job, renaming a building wouldn’t be necessary.
Stop with the BS and address the problems Ms. McGraw laid out a year ago. That might also help the misguided city commission’s efforts to reduce violence and gang activity.
Is PS1 taken?
Seems to me the SBAC is more concerned with who gets their panties in a wad than they are with the other issues that are more relevant and important to the education, safety and security of the children and employees of the district.
What’s the current name and why does it need to be changed?
It’s currently called the Kirby Smith building. Unknown why the name needs to change. I’m guessing someone got offended by the name. Let’s just change it to Alachua County School Board Office. Change all the school names to PS1, PS2, etc. Then maybe nobody else will get offended.
It’s called the District Office Building; the Kirby Smith name was removed at least five years ago.
PS2 reminds me too much of the game system my parents had to get rid of.
I don’t know if I would be able to contain myself if those memories were brought back.

District office of Alachua County public schools is fine. We should be like other areas and name schools after neighborhoods or other states ps and number.
Leave the history of Gainesville alone!!! All this county dose is erase the history of Alachua County and Gainesville. If it wasn’t for the history of my county you wouldn’t be here and have a job. Y’all are ruining this place I have called home for 9 generations.
