State officials again focus on School Board Member Certain after post claiming Trump assassination attempt was staged

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Following School Board Member Tina Certain’s Facebook post stating that the assassination attempt at the April 25 White House Correspondents’ Dinner was “staged,” a number of Florida officials have criticized her for “downplaying political violence” and for “pure Trump Derangement Syndrome in action.”
Responding to a post about whether the shooter at the Washington, D.C. event had been killed by law enforcement, Certain wrote, “Staged! Drump stages more crap than a realtor.”
After the post was amplified by the @LibsofTikTok account, Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia wrote, “She should resign in shame.”
Florida Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas wrote, “Downplaying political violence is par for the course for Alachua County School Board Member Tina Certain. School board members are elected to prioritize the safety and academic success of students, not engage in political activism and conspiracy theories to build their own political careers. Thankfully, Tina Certain’s time on the school board is coming to an end. Once gone, I’m hopeful @AlachuaSchools can refocus on the student-centered policies we champion in Florida, instead of dealing with this nonsense.”
Certain is now running for an Alachua County Commission seat
Certain is not running for re-election to her School Board seat because she is running for an Alachua County Commission seat this fall.
Other officials chime in
State Board of Education Chair Ryan Petty wrote, “Pure Trump Derangement Syndrome in action: Alachua County School Board Member Tina Certain downplaying political violence. Shouldn’t school board members should [sic] be laser-focused on safe schools and strong academic results? Soon, Certain will be gone, and @AlachuaSchools can move on from this nonsense.”
Senator Rick Scott posted, “This is disgusting. She needs to resign. Now.”
Certain was previously criticized for a post about Charlie Kirk’s murder that called Trump “Drump”
In November 2025, Certain was called to the State Board of Education meeting to be questioned about several social media posts, including one that called Charlie Kirk a “31yr old uneducated white boy” and called President Trump “Drump.”
At that meeting, Certain asked, “Why should i have to explain what I said on my personal Facebook page, on my personal time, using my personal device, when I have First Amendment rights and I’m elected?” She said the citizens would “have their chance at the ballot box” in 2026 to vote her out: “That’s how we deal with that. Removing me from office or trying to slap my hand and chill my speech, that is not the way democracy works.” Kamoutsas responded, “You continue to not understand the point that this State Board is trying to communicate to you: You are an example for these children.”

Sad commentary on one of our local school board members. Sometimes it is better to keep your thoughts to yourself. She is doing a poor job as an example for the students she is supposed to be representing. She should never again be elected to represent Alachua County.
Tina talks a lot and draws plenty of attention. She has zero accomplishments as a school board member.
She hopes to be relevant this coming election, but her priorities are obviously misplaced. She’s made more comments regarding the assassination attempts — whether real or staged — than on the violence in our local school system.
Local voters should take note.

Per the supervisor of elections’ web site, July 20th is the deadline for non-democrats to change to democrat party registration in order to vote for somebody else in the upcoming primary.
Thanks to the reversion to at-large voting for county commission seats, any resident of the county can vote in the District 2 election.

When you are an elected official you represent all of us. Not just those who agree with you.
She was elected to lead the school board and direct how our children learn to read, write and effectively use mathematics. This is her only job as an elected official.
Her personal political issues should not be public.
It shades her commitment to every student and employee that seeks a fair and proper education. It creates disruption, confusion and detracts from her mission as an elected official.
She can have all the thoughts she wants but she holds a public platform.
She should be held accountable to that platform and keep her politics out of the public sphere.

Putting her extreme partisanship aside, why would any voter think she could improve the county government as a commissioner when she is an abject failure as a school board member? The county has many more moving parts than the school system. Her record shows that she is mentally and emotionally unfit to represent and govern.
Gov. DeSantis should ban Certain “the racist” from holding any public office ever again. There should be no place for her hatred in Florida.
